About Rapid Progress

The 2008 Isle of Man TT Races saw him perform even better and, in only his second appearance on the 37 and ¾ mile Mountain Course, he was never out of the top six in the four races he finished. With a best finish of fourth, in the Superbike race, he increased his best lap to over 127mph, a remarkable feat for someone in just his second year of real road racing, whilst he was also lying in second place in the Superstock race before being forced to retire on the second lap.

The Uel Duncan Racing team wisely retained Gary’s services for 2009 and after another strong showing at the Cookstown 200, where he recorded his first podium, it was on to the North West 200 where he rode sensibly in the torrential rain to be rewarded with three more top ten finishes.

At the TT, Gary had the honour of being chosen by Arai Helmets to wear their 25th anniversary helmet and he ensured they had chosen the right man as a strong fifth in the Superbike race opened his account for the week and he followed this up with three more top ten finishes in the Supersport and Superstock races. However, he saved the best until last and, aided by a new personal best lap of over 129mph, he took a brilliant third in the ‘Blue Riband’ Senior race.

A return to the Ulster Grand Prix, only his second appearance at the Dundrod circuit, saw him take his second International podium with runner-up spot in the Superbike race and also become only the third rider to lap the high-speed course in excess of 133mph! He finished his year with a series of impressive rides in the British Superstock Championship as well as claiming fourth at the Macau Grand Prix and fifth in the Scarborough International Gold Cup race.

On the back of his Macau GP performance, AIM Racing secured Gary’s services for 2010 and although reliability problems with the machines held him back during the course of the season, he showed his versatility with a brilliant third place overall in the British Superbike Evo Championship after notching up a series of wins and podium finishes. His best result on the roads came at the Macau Grand Prix with a strong fifth place.
